That’s Kelly’s new name for me. Snotty Whore. Or Snotty Minge. She can’t decide which she likes better. I am a Snotty Whore because I’ve had a ridiculous snot-filled cold since Friday and I sound like I have a Nerf football stuffed in my mouth and I can’t hear out of my right ear.
So, I’ve been sent into home exile so that I don’t infect everyone at the office and I’m working in my home office and what is on the TV right now is none other than The Beautician and the Beast. And I am so happy. Because Beautician and the Beast is basically one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies of all time. It’s horrible. I’m embarrassed to admit it. I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I love Timothy Dalton’s over-the-top Russian-type-dictator performance, I love the castle, I love all of Fran Drescher’s ridiculous outfits, and I especially love how they eat a turkey sandwich together in the castle kitchen that’s the size of a football field at three in the morning. It’s on right now. LOVE.
Since I’m swamped with tons of work right now getting ready for a meeting tomorrow, I’ll just take a few minutes to list several of my other favorite guilty pleasure movies so that you can make fun of me to all of your friends.
That’s all I can think of at the moment. Please, share yours. At least so that I don’t feel so alone and lame.

Pretty much ANYTHING with Pauly Shore rocks my world.
I’m so happy there is someone else out there who shares my guilty pleasures!!!
Now they’re not so guilty anymore, lol.
Center Stage and The Saint are totally on my list too.
How bout Varsity Blues.
French Kiss.
and American President.
“Don’t fuck with the babysitter.”
Charlie’s Angels
Just Write
Rocky
Better Off Dead
Grease
Mean Girls (or Clueless, take your pick)
Streets of Fire
*cough*
OH MY GOD.
Yes, to Charlie’s Angels (1 AND 2), Streets of Fire, French Kiss and American President. Guess which one of those I own.
Also? Guess what’s on RIGHT NOW? If you said, The Brady Bunch Movie, then you guessed RIGHT.
LOVE The Cutting Edge! I haven’t bought it yet on DVD because my husband would roll his eyes so hard they’ll fall back into his head if I bought it when I was with him. And I never think about buying it when he’s not with me.
Dirty Dancing is one of my guilty pleasures because (say it with me) “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.”
Also just about any romantic comedy with Meg Ryan, but I love Sandra Bullock too.
13 Going on 30 is another one.
Alien Vs. Predator
Im pretty sure Ive watched Bridget Jones more times than is legal and safe for consumption.
“Oh shit, it must’ve been the string.”
Ohahahahaha
I love Center Stage! “Whatever you feel, just dance it”
One Fine Day would be at the top of my list, closely followed by The Saint and Adventures in Babysitting.
I have a thing for Rock Star. It’s just not right. Also? American Anthem. Remember? With Mitch Gaylord and Janet Jones?
Yeah, I bought the soundtrack.
wow… you have alot of good ones.
Man on Fire (if I see it, I have to watch it to completion… even if it’s 2am)
Crimson Tide
Elizabethtown
Alot Like Love (what….. she’s hot!)
Miracle
Let it Ride (R.Dreyfus is GREAT in it!)
Groundhog Day
Emmett’s Mark
A River Runs Through it
Stargate
Hackers
Sneakers
Big
just to start
Ooh, 13 going on 30.
And I second…er, third the Bullock. I do own Miss Congeniality (original flavor — #2 kind of sucked).
Goonies is never a guilty pleasure. That movie is a masterpiece!
I also love Sandra Bullock movies, although I admit I haven’t seen Two If by Sea and the Lake House. Demolition Man and While You Were Sleep are my favorites.
I guess one of my more “shameful” guilty pleasures is Last Action Hero. I have the quotes there because I honestly think its a good movie and it everyone else that’s wrong.
Oh, guilty pleasures, let’s see…
I cringe to name them, but here they are-
Sheena
Solarbabies
The Rescue
Masters of the Universe
The Blue Lagoon
Return to the Blue Lagoon
Earth Girls are Easy
There…I’be named them out loud for the first time ever…oh well.
Foul Play and Roadhouse.
ROADHOUSE RULES.
Girls just want to have fun
Take the lead
Never been kissed
too name a VERY few
BRING IT ON.
I am so relieved someone else owned up to Masters of the Universe. A young, shirtless Dolph Lundgren? Yum!
Pretty Woman
True Lies
Milk Money
About Miss Congeniality – I own the VHS tape and the DVD, but if it is on TV, I will still watch it, commercials and ALL!
However, Roadhouse 2 is sadly disappointing.
Add my vote for “The American President.” If it’s on, I’ll watch it. The same goes for:
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Beverly Hills Cop
Summer School
What can I say. I’m a child of the 80s.
Your list very similar to mine! So many of my guilty pleasures have been listed already, so I’ll just leave you with one that hasn’t been mentioned yet.
What a Girl Wants. Colin Firth dancing in tight leather pants in front of a mirror?! Good god that is awesome!
if you like dancing movies, you haaaave to see the one that came out recently called Step Up. It’s the pinnacle of cheesy-fantastic. I’ll definitely be sneaking in to buy a copy when it comes out.
Oh, sweet lord, how I do love SHAG. Sweet, sweet Annabeth Gish, throwing her Metracal (?) out of the convertible. And sipping booze through a straw under the table with the kid who didn’t think she was fat.
“Bubble flip is bettah fuh shaggin’.”
Any movie with Sylvia Kristel in it.
You’ve Got Mail.
I hate and love it equally. Tom Hanks, Steve Zahn, Greg Kinnear, Parker Posey, Dave Chappelle – LOVE! But then there’s pretty NYC in the fall, and a children’s book store full of wonder, and Christmas carols! It’s so idyllic and charming!
But, Meg Ryan – HATE! That hate is so big it almost overcomes the love. And then there’s the part where Meg and Tom MUST say aloud whatever they type on AOL. Or else they make ridiculous faces to correspond with the voiceover. HAAAAAAAAAATE.
What a terrible movie. Why can’t I turn it off?
Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (the sequel totally blows)
Spaceballs
Ferris Bueller
So I Married an Ax Murderer (Heed – Pants – Now!)
Hi
I own a tshirt which says, “Goonies never say die,” it has the scull and cross bones under it. I own more then half on your list.
I don’t think Princess Bride is a gulity pleasure though, theres also a tshirt I want which says “Wesley (not sure how to spell his name) Never Dies” the book, the Princess Bride is also excellent. Theres a sequal Butter Cup’s Baby, by Goldman couldn’t get the rights to it.
Awesome listings! Here’s my List O’ Guilt:
Star Wars ANH (before all that Special Ed crap and prequels)
Adventures in Babysitting
-sad fact: Disney is making a remake of A in B with Raven-Symone.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Stepping Out- just something about Liza’s dancing!
Serendipity -sorry, helpless romantic here
You’ve Got Mail -meg meg meg meg meg meg meg meg meg!
Howard the Duck -very underrated
Mystery Science Theater -www.rifftrax.com; locate the audio commentary for Roadhouse AND Cocktail!
Before Sunrise and Before Sunset
Superman the Movie (not the latest one)
Just Like Heaven – mmmmm… Reese’s peanut butter cups!
Footloose
Back to the Future (1.21 Gigawatts!!!!)
and now the Embarressment portion of this list….
I call myself a self-proclaimed 80′s child, but I never saw Goonies. I know, hit me with a baseball bat to the temple.
d’oh! How could I forget Back to the Future?!?
(Again, the sequels – not so much)
I LOVE 10 Things I Hate About You, and I’m right there with you on the dancing movies – Center Stage is great even though the acting is ridiculous.
I could watch Love Actually a bazillion times – and cry every time “God Only Knows” plays over the closing credits.
And my most embarassing guilty pleasure? For some reason I MUST watch The Wedding Planner every time it’s on TV.. I get sucked in!
Own ‘em all, but will watch entirely whenever they’re on the tube. Uh… maybe they’re just good movies and NOT guilty pleasures. Whatev.
Tender Mercies
An Officer and a Gentleman
Godfather I and II
The Sting
Napolean Dynamite
Dirty Dancing (*sigh*)
Ack! One more…
Days of Heaven (snag this one just to look at the awesome cinematography)
I’ll sheddup now.
a hahahaaa….I was watching “The Brady Bunch Movie” yesterday from my “home office” as well!
I think our list is interchangeable. I do have to add the following:
first two “American Pie” movies
“Where the Heart Is”
“Willow” (i KNOW, right?!)
“50 First Dates”
“Spanglish”
and the first “Bridget Jones”
Journalists who like to say fuck, Hugh Grant AND Colin Firth. Bring it on, baby.
I have alot of those. Legally Blonde 1&2, Save the Last Dance, Center Stage and any other teeny bopper movie of that genre. My feel good movies include Love Actually, Ever After & Hitch for some reason.
Top of the List. GOONIES! Not a guilty pleasure to me. I love it!
Bring It On
Pretty In Pink
Sixteen Candles (“Dong!? Grandpa is talking to you.)
How ’bout “Ladyhawke”? C’mon, Rutger Hauer in black leather and Matthew Broderick doing his best medieval Bueller? A true guilty pleasure!
…and “The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai in the Eighth Dimension” — omigosh, how many people in that movie went on to greatness?!?!?! And it’s John Lithgow at his zaniest. Does that man have no pride?
Hudson Hawk. Yeah, I said it. I love Bruce Willis, what can I say?
Also, me too with anything with Sandy Bullock in it because I love. None of ya had the cojones to actually list “Speed”? ‘Cause I just did.
1. I am AMAZED at how close my list is (except #7, #9- somehow, never did see Goonies, and all SB-she grates for some reason).
2. Can’t believe how many I own, and that I just saw 1 and 14 (“Get out of my house”"You just moved!” “Don’t fuck w/ the babysitter”, indeed) this weekend.
Agree on: Legally Blondes
Ferris Bueller
I Just Married an Ax Murderer (“Woman. Woe-man. Whoooaaa-man.” and the whole A. LaPaglia/Alan Arkin schtick)
Rob Roy (not just b/c of Tim Roth, but… naked Liam)
Bring It On (tres guilty)
and…. has anyone even heard of:
Amazing Grace and Chuck
I cry. every. time. Don’t know why. And Jamie Lee Curtis rocked.
To my eternal shame I love all Jennifer Lopez movies and own every romantic comedy she’s done… can’t get much more guilty than that!!
Sandra Bullock movies should not be guilty coz she rocks!!
Erin, GREAT list. Especially Forces of Nature and the Runaway Bride. The Wedding Crashers is my guilty pleasure. I’ve seen it 10 times, which is really a bit too much dontcha think? Also I second the Pauly Shore comment. For a really old movie that’s ridiculous to watch again and again, “The Breakfast Club.” How about Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead? That’s a good one.
Oh, totally. I love Don’t Tell Mom. And I watch it every time it’s on cable. I am so sad.
Monkeybone. It’s a truly awful movie. really. But nothing makes me laugh harder than Chris Kattan in that movie.
Oh, man. You are so not alone — I’m always surprised by how many people (well, girls, actually) own The Cutting Edge, Center Stage and Save The Last Dance.
And FINALLY! Someone else who feels the love for The Saint!
How about:
Dave
Tin Cup
Remember the Titans
Goldeneye
She’s All That
The Princess Diaries (but NOT the second one)
anything by Rodgers & Hammerstein
Any Given Sunday
forgot to add this to the list:
License to Drive (have to sit through two hours of Coreys for 15 sweet minutes of Heather Graham).
My Best Friends Wedding (just because I was an extra in it)
Forget Paris (“I’m sorry, I can’t go back to your place. You have a real dumpy ass.”)
How To Marry A Millionaire (something about Marilyn Monroe being blind as a bat is a turn-on….)
The In-Laws – Alan Arkin & Peter Falk. I own the DVD but still watch it when it’s on TV. And I still laugh myself silly everytime.
Moon Over Parador – Richard Dryfuss – Ridiculous plot but funny.
Another favorite comedy – Midnight Run with Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin.
How to lose a guy in 10 days
Bring it on
Monster in Law
Down to you (Julia Stiles)
My Best Friend’s Wedding
The truth about Cats and Dogs
Office Space (Is it wrong that I almost spent $17 on a red Swingline stapler?)
and of course, Caddyshack
Anything with Keanu Reeves, which I wish could be traced directly back to my undying love for the Bill & Ted movies, but that would be lying.
And yes that includes Dracula, despite my hatred of Winona Ryder.
And Much Ado About Nothing, even though I generally dislike Shakespeare films on principle.
But I genuinely love The Replacements and The Devil’s Advocate with all my heart. Aww, a “southern” accent! Al Pacino overacting to the point where I’m still surprised he doesn’t have a heart attack somewhere around the 100 minute mark! A whole football team doing the Electric Slide to ‘I Will Survive’ in a holding cell!
Deep Blue Sea, although that’s probably because I think LL Cool J is criminally underrated.
I cannot, however, defend my addiction to Dude, Where’s My Car? My mother mocks me mercilessly for it, but that’s coming from a woman who loves Rob Schnieder so…. let’s call that a draw.
Okay, this looks more like a list of favorite movies, versus a “guilty pleasures” list. So, I will list my one “guilty pleasure” movie. The one that if anyone else ever found out about, I’d be embarassed and resolute all at the same time.
Now keep in mind, I am the quintessential guy. I love working on cars, watching football and charring red meat on my grill.
My guilty pleasure movie?
White Knights.
Yeah. I said it. What?
Don’t tell me that Gregory Hines doesn’t KICK ASS in that movie, given that he had to dance with who? Mikhail Baryshnikov? Get outta here! And, AND, he held his own.
Yeah. My guilty pleasure…
Now if you want to get into FAVORITE movies… that’s a different story altogether…
My guilty pleasure is Practical Magic. I have watched it far too many times. And I always end up wishing that magic were real and that I could do spells. Just to clarify, I am 30, not 8.
“The Italian Job (no, not the original — the one with Marky Mark; dude, IT’S SO AWESOME)”
I KNOW IT.
I am routinly mocked for this one, but it rocks! Awesome mini car chases! Edward Norton in bad dressing gowns! Seth Green! Mos Def! HANDSOME ROB. Not to mention Marky, even though he does don several ill advised tshirts.
Love, love, love. It is the one bad movie that still makes it onto my favourite movies list.
How did I miss this post????
* Grease 1 AND 2 (Cool Rider rawks!)
* Dirty Dancing
* Strictly Ballroom
* To Wong Foo
* Night of the Living Dead
* Anything shown on Elvira’s show
Okay, you know there is no shame when people are just busting out with Grease 2… in public. No. Shame.
Most of my guilty faves have been mentioned, and please enroll me in the Adventures in Babysitting fan club.
No one has, as yet, mentioned a made-for-tv movie called BabyCakes… Rikki Lake, Craig Shaeffer, and the dorian-grayish Betty Buckley. I have so much love for this movie, I cannot even begin to tell you. And it is practically an after-school special.
And Sliding Doors. Should I feel guilty for this one? Some of the ones on other lists have been long-time faves and I didn’t even know I was supposed to be in the closet about it. I love love love Sliding Doors. I just love watching Gwyneth on her two paths, and Jeanne Triplehorn is such an awesome bitch, truly. I’ve gone through 2 soundtrack cd’s and a tape. This time around I bought the dvd.
My friend had a thing for Sabrina, the remake with Harrison Ford, Greg Kinnear and Julia Ormond. It was on all the time, literally, for close to a year. She wore out 2 tapes before she got a dvd player.
Quigley Down Under
I can’t believe how many times I’ve seen “Just one of the Guys,” “Satisfaction,” (with Justine Bateman and LIAM NEESON), and “Hiding Out” (because I love Jon Cryer). I hate myself for watching them, but it’s an illness.
Also, no one has seen “Bridget Jones’ Diary” more than I have. No one.
My favs are:
Adventures in Babysitting
Curley Sue
Housesitter
Troop Beverly Hills
First Wives Club
Revenge of the Nerds
Wet Hot Summer
